Hi, I would call all my friends ahead of time, to let them know when the dinner party is and ask them to arrive early. I would ask them to help set up the table. We would play a couple of board games and then we would watch a couple of movies over a simple home made dinner with meat and vegetables or a one pot meal from the oven. That's about it.

This works out for any occasion/any group of people/any location- U send out the party invitations (unless u call the individuals by phone or email). Let the people know that each invited guest is to bring a fav dish/side order/dessert/drink as their contribution to a "fun organized party/get together." They bring item from at least one of the above categories, tho can bring from additional ones too (if they choose). Everyone will enjoy & be appreciated/appreciative...

I have enjoyed doing simple, more casual dinner parties which the guests contribute to. You can have a potato bar. You set the table, etc. and bake the potatoes, maybe have a salad and dessert. The guests commit to bringing other toppings like broccoli, cheese, onions, tomatoes, etc. You can also do this with a pizza party. You provide the pizza dough and sauce and people bring toppings they like and you work together to create some different pizzas. People seem to enjoy having a part and it usually turns into a fun time!
